Prediction of the major and minor species in reacting flows is of concern for design and performance estimation of many combustion devices. The present paper deals with the effect of the reaction mechanisms on the species prediction results. Two well-known comprehensive mechanisms are compared for the prediction of an opposed-jet diffusion flame. Results show that the GRI-MECH3 mechanism is superior over the Konnov mechanism in terms of computational time. However, the latter mechanism better predict the heavier hydrocarbon concentrations. Both mechanisms predict the major species to a good level of accuracy.
